I guess like everyone else, I look to buy gear that will provide durable, reliable protection. I am new to Jottnar as a brand but was reassured by the positive reviews so took the plunge. The Vanir LT’s are beautifully finished, with the selection of materials and obsessive attention to detail instilling confidence that they will stand up to anything I am likely to be exposed to. Leg articulation is the best I have seen on any hard shell pant. I am tall yet can reach out for footholds with no noticeable rise or restriction of movement. The fabric feels much thicker than 80D but is quiet to wear and comfortable. The leg length is perfect for me (34 inch inside leg) and the waist fits true to size. Although primarily a winter weight pant, I have used these at 6C and didn’t overheat. I suspect the Vanir’s will be the first of many purchases from Jottnar.

Good waterproofs that could be great.

The Vanir LT trousers look good and have reasonable movement. I went up a size to an XL so I could benefit from full leg movement while climbing, I find large in all waterproof trousers restrict my thighs!!

I didn’t find them light, weight wise they were comparable to my ME and Sherpa ones and not the sort I’d put in a pack just in case but they are 3-layer, 80 denier. I wore mine over some leggings and was comfortable in aerobic and static activities managing to achieve breathability throughout.

They felt robust and kept me dry in sustained terrible weather with the Mountain Rescue Team during storm Babet, and in N Wales and the Cairngorms mountaineering when there’s only two types of people on the hill: - those paying and those being paid.

As they are made for Climbing, Skiing & Alpine so I find the pockets are of no use and the side zips are basic, reducing the ease and to vent the trousers:- The belt is great the braces are great.

I’d use them all year round in the worst weather if it wasn’t for the permanent Kevlar gaiter, a bit overkill if you’re not wearing crampons. I wish I could slide it in and out.

another quality product from Jottnar

the attention to detail and the quality of the stitching is excellent. The items feel like great quality and are comparable to the very best brands. The logos are also well placed. no complaints on the visual appearance of the product.
